Eppley Scholarship Award for Continuing Education
The GLPTI offers annual scholarships to park and recreation professionals. These are full scholarships and include full registration, meals and lodging, and mileage. Scholarships are rotated annually between state park employees and state recreation association members. For the 2008 Institute, Eppley Scholarships will be awarded to state recreation association members. One scholarship will be awarded to each member state. The deadline to apply is December 1, 2008.
Flaherty Awards
The Institute annually presents the Daniel Flaherty Park Excellence Award in recognition of park facilities and programs completed within the last five years which represent the cutting edge of the leisure movement throughout the United States. These projects will represent innovative, cost effective design; demonstrate the utilization of community input and resources; and provide a significant impact on their community and agency. The Deadline to apply is December 1, 2008.
Attendance Awards
The attendance award recognizes those individuals who have attended the GLPTI for 10, 20, or 30 years. The individual receiving this recognition must complete this application. The 10, 20, and 30-year attendance awards are based on the number of total years in attendance and do not have to be consecutive. This year's institute may also be counted in the total. The deadline to apply is January 6, 2009.
Gadgets Workshop Session
One of the most anticipated and highly attended sessions of the Institute has been the Gadgets Workshop session. This workshop was created to essentially “Show and Tell” what park technicians and professionals in the field have invented or created to use as a tool to perform their job or solve a recurring problem. A variety of inexpensive ideas that attendees use to make jobs easier and quicker have been presented at this workshop over the years. Agencies and park personnel are invited to submit a gadget to be presented at the 2008 GLPTI Gadgets Workshop session. Repeat presentations from all agencies and park personnel are invited every year.
